Description

This lotus hamsa hand necklace sets an openwork Fatima's hand in platinum-plated 925 sterling silver on a fine chain you can wear daily. A small lotus flower crowns the hand, and layered teardrop petals fill its palm. Scroll-shaped cutouts let your skin or top show through the silver. The pendant measures 1.06 x 0.77 in (2.7 x 2.0 cm) and weighs about 2.8 g.

Does a lotus hamsa hand necklace with open cutouts still look detailed when worn?

Yes. The cutouts give the hand its pattern, so the design shows through light and shadow rather than solid metal.

  • Look: A polished silver-colored hand with curved fingers, teardrop petals and a lotus bloom at the very top.
  • Wear: The chain measures 17 in (43 cm) and adjusts, so the hand rests on the upper chest.
  • Build: The pendant is 925 sterling silver with platinum plating, stamped 925 and Sterling on the metal.
  • Detail: An elongated bail and a connecting ring join the hand to a fine oval-link chain.

What do the lotus and the hand mean together on this pendant?

Picture a yoga class where you leave the pendant on over a fitted tank. The lotus at the top reads clearly against fabric, and the open palm lets the color of the tank show through. At 1.06 in (2.7 cm) tall, the hand stays small enough to sit close to the neck as you move. More open and symbolic designs sit in our hamsa hand necklaces, and plain metal pieces gather in the sterling silver necklace collection. The 17 in (43 cm) chain places the hand just below the collarbone, as our necklace length guide shows for that size. The hand carries protection, the lotus a fresh start.

For lovers of all-metal pattern

This hamsa suits someone who wants a small, all-silver symbol with fine pattern and no color. The red flower hamsa from the same collection adds eight red petals and an eye at its center. If you prefer a single metal tone with openwork, this lotus hand is the better fit; if you want color, the red flower hamsa suits you more.

Chain length guide

Lengths are listed in inches, measured flat from end to end.

14–16 in sits at the base of the neck, from choker to collarbone.
18 in falls just below the collarbone, the most worn length for a pendant.
20 in rests on the upper chest and clears a crew neck.
22–24 in falls lower, for layering or a longer drop.

Questions about this piece

Still unsure about sizing or material? Write to us and a person answers.

Why does the hand have no eye at its center?

The palm is filled with layered teardrop petals instead, so the flower theme runs from the lotus down through the hand. This gives the hamsa a botanical look rather than the watchful look of an eye design. The petals overlap like an opening bloom, which links the palm visually to the lotus at the top.

How does the openwork change with the color of your top?

The cutouts show whatever sits behind them, so a dark top outlines the silver sharply while a pale one softens it. On bare skin the pattern looks lighter and more delicate. The scroll shapes become clearer on solid colors than on busy prints, where the hand can blend into the fabric.

Which way do the fingers point when the pendant hangs?

The fingers point down toward the chest, with the lotus at the top near the bail. Worn this way, the hamsa is traditionally read as a hand offering blessing. The lotus then sits closest to the chain, framing the top of the pendant and leading the eye downward through the petals.

Some jewelry is worn. Some is passed down.

Nahyana began with one necklace that stayed in the family long after the day it was bought for. Every piece is held to that standard: the metal named plainly, a length you can check before you order, and a name, initial or symbol that still means something years from now.
